Winter Wonderland
I love the snow! Well I love it while it's white and pristine as it makes the garden look so pure by covering over any imperfections.
It changes the whole perspective of any garden and if you look closely at branches, twigs and even leaves the way the snow has landed and covers or perches on these can be quite beautiful.

Also at this time of year when some of us have been started to flag under the continual bombardment of Christmas everywhere you go, in some cases from as early as October, it is a welcome boost to that flagging Christmas spirit and must make even the worst grump perk up a bit! I always find it a pity that more people don't come out and enjoy this beautiful spectacle, as it occurs so infrequently. As I sit and write this it is crisp outside, but the sun is shining and it really is one of those "glad to be alive days" and far better to be in the garden than in the middle of the madding millions trying to get their Christmas shopping finished - or started in my case! I have to keep nipping into the gardens, a different area each time, just to make sure I get to see it all before that beautiful white snow starts to turn to mush and I then start worrying about the potential damage all that water might cause to the grass pathways. Still, lets just enjoy the snow while its here.
I don't know how people manage it, all that time off! I have to admit that, although I really enjoy Christmas day, by the time Boxing day comes I am chomping at the bit to get back out into the garden. It would be nice to get a few days of lovely, bright weather through into the new year as it would be nice for visitors to enjoy the beauty of Barnsdale in the winter without having to combat driving rain. We are only closed 23rd and 25th December and are open every other day during our normal winter opening hours of 10am to 4pm.
