Week 1

General
Seed collecting.

Cutting down perennials that have finished flowering.

Spraying greenhouses and conservatory with insecticidal soap as mealy bugs have appeared.

Picking RASPBERRY 'Autumn Bliss' and 'Autumn Gold' and early varieties of APPLES and PEARS.

Allotment
Lifted ONION 'Duraldo' - small but clean.

Cleared weeds from Vale of Catmose school plot.

Edged all grass edges around allotment area.

Hoed between rows.

Elizabethan Vegetable Garden
Put leaf mould mulch around BRASSICAS.

Hoed beds.

Glass House
Potted up seedlings of spring CABBAGE 'April', 'Durham Elf', Pixie', 'Mastergreen' and 'Peter'.

Week 2

General
After fruiting, pruned PLUMS.

Started to prune all LAUREL hedges.

Pruned out old caned and tied in new canes of all summer fruiting RASPBERRIES.

Compiling list of plants to be divided or moved.

Collecting APPLES and PEARS as they ripen.

Allotment
Removed overgrown RUNNER BEANS from plants to encourage more beans to set.

Manuring and digging vacant areas.

Hoeing.

Elizabethan Vegetable Garden
Digging in leaf mould.

Week 3

General
Seed collecting as they become ready.

Cutting back herbaceous plants in all borders as they go over.

Painting fences when possible during tying in of climbing and rambling ROSES.

Allotment
General tidy up on this and all vegetable and fruit areas in the garden.

Week 4

General
Strimmed wildflower area and left tops in situ to maximise seed dispersal.

Put out all remaining summer bedding that had been potted up and saved for extras on one of our private garden maintenance jobs that were no longer needed.  These are to be used as a late burst of colour in areas where herbaceous plants have been cut back and left a bit of a hole.

Finished all hedge cutting.

Pruning LAUREL hedges.

Pruned and tied in summer fruiting RASPBERRIES and BLACKBERRIES.

Re-gravelled Artificial Rock Garden.

Allotment
Edged all grass pathways.

Dead headed MARIGOLDS.

Removed FRENCH BEAN plants, manured and dug over area.

Put in support canes for the taller BRUSSELS SPROUT plants.

Started to crop second flush of RUNNER BEANS.

Caned and tied in CHRYSANTHEMUMS.

Transplanted all SPRING CABBAGE into nursery bed which was then covered with netting.

Spread leaf mould and dug in.

Directly sown LETTUCE 'Burgundy Boston' under cold frame.

Started to clear tunnels of CUCUMBERS and TOMATOES and the spent compost was spread onto open ground and dug in.

Hoeing between rows.

Parterre
Directly sown LETTUCE 'Winter Density' and SPRING ONION 'Winter Hardy' and 'Guardsman'.

Ornamental Kitchen Garden
Weeded borders and between pathways.
