Week 1

General
Tidied through Rose Garden.

Spiked poorly drained areas of lawn with a fork and then brushed in sharp sand.

Bought in any pots containing tender plants into a heated greenhouse.

Put fleece around TREE FERN (Dicksonia antarctica) and Bay (Laurus nobilis) as they are permanent plants that may suffer winter damage.

Strimmed Wildflower area, raked off tops and put onto compost heap.

Allotment
Cleaned through LEEK bed.

Topped up bark on pathways.

Stored TURNIP 'Purple Top Milan' and 'Snowball' in large pots of moist sharp sand and took them to the store.

Put all potted PARSLEY 'Moss Curled' into the tunnel for winter cropping.

Ornamental Kitchen Garden
Cleaned between block paving and topped up with kiln dried sand.

Week 2

General
Lifted non-hardy CHRYSANTHEMUMS, DAHLIAS and CANNAS, stored in dry compost and put in a frost free greenhouse.

Started digging out paved area in the Garden For the Less Mobile.

Allotment
Making leaf bins using tree stakes and chicken wire.
Cut down CHRYSANTHEMUMS, shredded stalks and put them in compost bin.

Parterre
Pulled up NASTURTIUMS and dug vacant beds.

Week 3

General
Reduced height of any deciduous hedges that needed it.

Laid grass path and set the arbour in place in the Tranquil Garden.

Allotment
Rubbed down cold frame and applied first coat of paint.

Nursery
Sowing wide variety of herbaceous seeds into modules which are then placed onto a heated mat (65 degrees C) which has been covered with damp capillary matting.

Elizabethan Vegetable Garden
Dug all vacant beds, adding sand.

Greenhouse
Sowed SWEET PEA 'Geoff Hamilton' into newspaper tubes.

Week 4

General
Reducing height of ROSES and BUDDLEJAS.

Started to clean out pond in Town Paradise Garden, removing all plants which will be divided and some put back.

Rubbing down and treating furniture.

Allotment
Staked BRUSSELS SPROUTS.

Lifted SALSIFY, SCORZONERA and CELERIAC and stored in pots of sand.

Cut tops from BROAD BEAN green manure.
