The Gardens
Geoff Hamilton Memorial Garden seat Memorial Garden

The memorial seat has been placed in a quiet corner of the garden to give everybody the opportunity of peace and contemplation in what must be one of the best settings in the country.

The wood was donated by the staff and was built, for free, by Peter Wallace from a single slab of oak.  As you sit you look out across a bed filled with snowdrops and daffodils in spring, followed by the David Austin bred ‘Geoff Hamilton’ rose.

The centrepiece is a bronze bust of Geoff which sits on a reclaimed stone plinth. It was modelled by his youngest son Chris.  His favourite tree, 'Cerciphyllum japonicum', was planted behind the seat and is positioned over his faithful dog Moss who died exactly two weeks after Geoff and Dennis, the cat, who took to occasional stardom like a duck to water.

The area is surrounded by wildflowers, inter-planted with old shrub roses with wonderful hips, the perfect finishing touch for this perfect memorial.
