Week 1

General
Shredding woody waste when it was too wet to get on the gardens.

Engraving and making plant labels on wet days.

Planting in various parts of the gardens.

Topping up bark pathways around the gardens and around bases of trees.

Spraying with soft soap in greenhouses and conservatory.

Allotment
Harvested the last of the LEEKS.

Dug up CHARD and KALE as crops had finished and composted.

Planted out CABBAGE 'Hispi' and TURNIP 'Golden Ball'.

Elizabethan Vegetable Garden
Planted out BRUSSELS SPROUTS, CABBAGE and CAULIFLOWER.

Parterre
Planted out LETTUCE 'Lollo Rosso'.

Week 2

General
Later flowering Daffodils varieties are being deadheaded regularly.

Put link stakes and metal 'grow through supports' into position on the taller perennials if missed last month.

Ponds regularly topped up and blanket weed removed.

Allotment
Dug up last of the LEEKS.

Parterre
Planted out TURNIPS; CARROTS; ARTICHOKES and LETTUCE.
Tidied through beds.

Greenhouse
Potted on all CHILLI PEPPERS into 3 litre pots.

Pricked out LETTUCE into modules.

Sown SWEETCORN 'Indian Summer', 'Mini Pop', 'Sundance' and 'Applause' onto 8cm (3") pots.

Sown FRENCH BEANS 'Sprite', 'Purple Queen' and 'Borlotto Firetongue' into deep modules.

Sown trial LETTUCE 'Nymans' and 'Can Can' into trays.

Sown trial RUNNER BEAN 'White Swan' into 8cm (3") pots.

Sideshooted and caned all TOMATO plants.

Week 3

General
Removing leaves from daffodils as they turn brown and collapse.

Started clipping Buxus hedging in various parts of the garden. This is an ongoing job through the summer months.

Lawn edging, mowing and strimming more regularly now, mowing once a week.

Allotment
Weeded cut flower and bean area.

Directly sown FRENCH BEAN 'Masterpiece'.

Harvested first new POTATO 'Swift' from hot box.

Earthed up POTATOES.

Elizabethan Vegetable Garden
Planted CHARD.

Weeded all beds.

Harvested ASPARAGUS.

Staked BROAD BEANS.

Week 4

General
Trimmed early flowering clematis after flowering if outgrowing their space.

Pruned Exochorda, Berberis (evergreen), Cytisus and Ribes.

Planting out Dahlias.Regular watering, ventilating when warm and damping down floors in morning.

Allotment
Directly sowing SALSIFY; SCORZONERA; ROCKET; SPINACH; RADISH and BEETROOT.

Planted out PUMPKINS; FRENCH BEANS; LETTUCE; PEAS and TAGETES.

Elizabethan Vegetable Garden
Planted out RUNNER BEANS, LETTUCE and TAGETES.

Harvested the last of the LEEKS and ENDIVE.

Parterre
Planted out LETTUCE 'Sangria' and TAGETES.

Dug up overwintered SPINACH.

Ornamental Kitchen Garden
