Week 1

General
Dividing overgrown clumps of perennials where necessary and replanting.

Working through borders weeding and mulching.

Allotment
Erected double row of SWEET PEA sticks.

Greenhouse
Pricked out RUDBECKIA 'Indian Summer' into 9cm pots.

Pricked out BRUSSELS SPROUT 'Montgomery', 'Wellington' and 'Breeze'; CABBAGE 'Guardian' and 'Prima'; CAULIFLOWER 'Snowball'; STOCK 'Heaven Scent' and TAGETES ''Dainty Marietta' into modules.

Sown MELON 'Canteloupe' and 'Early Sweet'; CUCUMBER 'Bella'; ASTER 'Duchess Mixed' and 'Standy Mixed' into seed trays.

Sown LETTUCE 'Unrivalled' into modules.

Week 2

General
Pruned SPIRAEA japonica, MAHONIA, SAMBUCUS, HYDRANGEA, GRASSES, HYPERICUM, SANTOLINA and any remaining unpruned ROSES.

Moved any shrubs or small trees that have now outgrown their space into other areas.

Allotment
Painted inside of empty compost bin.

Tied all SWEET PEA sticks to support wires.

Greenhouse
Pricked out RUDBECKIA 'Marmalade' and TAGETES 'Mischief Mixed', 'Naughty Marietta' and 'Sunspot Mixed' into modules.

Potted TOMATO 'Big Beef' into 9cm pots.

Week 3

General
Started mowing and edging lawns due to continual growing of grass.

Spraying pests in greenhouses with soft soap.

Pulled down old and rotting wooden greenhouse in the Cottage Garden and dug out foundations in preparation for our new Hartley Botanics greenhouse.

Nursery
Started taking softwood cuttings from a wide range of garden plants that have produced their first flush of growth such as PENSTEMON, ASTERS, shrubby LONICERA, SEDUMS, etc.

Week 4

General
Taking cuttings from tender perennials being overwintered in heated greenhouses to bulk up stocks.

Mowing & lLawn edging as required.

General border tidying - digging over, planting, mulching and weeding.

Sowed grass seed onto plastic driveway paviors set into heavily trafficked areas.

Allotment
Planted out CABBAGE 'Hispi' and 'Guardian' and CAULIFLOWER 'Mayflower and 'Snowball' and covered with netted cloches.

Planted all remaining ONION varieties.

Parterre
Planted out ONION 'Ailsa Craig' and 'Brunswick', LETTUCE 'Lollo Rosso' and 'Unrivalled' and GARLIC 'Solent White'.

Ornamental Kitchen Garden
Planted out LETTUCE 'Blush'.

Artisan's Cottage Garden
Planted GARLIC 'Solent White'; LETTUCE 'Blush'; ONION 'Ailsa Craig' and BROAD BEAN 'Express'.

Elizabethan Vegetable Garden
Planted out CABBAGE 'Hispi'.

Greenhouse
Multi-sown CARROT 'Maestro', 'Chantenay Red' and 'Siroco'; LEEK 'Musselburgh' and Turnip 'Golden Ball' into modules.

Pricked out all varieties of MARIGOLDS; RUDBECKIA; CAPE GOOSEBERRY and ASTER into modules.

Potted on TOMATO 'Ailsa Craig' into 3 litre pots.

Sown LETTUCE 'Blush' and CAULIFLOWER 'Idol' into seed trays.

Sown MELON 'Lunabel' and 'Sweetheart' and PUMPKIN 'Hundredweight' into 7cm (3") pots.

Sown TOMATO 'Tumbler', 'Tumbling Tom Yellow' and 'Tumbling Tom Red'.
