Week 1

General
Cut off frost damaged tips from Choisya.

Finished pruning of early flowering shrubs if not done last month, some flower for longer.

Planting out tender perennials such as Argyranthemums and Osteospermums to fill gaps.

Allotment
Potted TOMATOES into their final 10 litre pots and placed the plants into their final growing positions in the polythene tunnel.        

Parterre
Planted LETTUCE 'Unrivalled'; FRENCH BEANS and RUNNER BEAN 'White Swan'.

Gentleman's Cottage Garden
Planted Climbing FRENCH BEAN.

Artisan's Cottage Garden
Planted FRENCH BEAN 'Purple Queen'.

Reclaimed Garden
Planted RUNNER BEAN 'Celebration'.

Elizabethan Vegetable Garden
Planted Climbing FRENCH BEAN.

Week 2

General
Planted tender perennials in various parts of the gardens.

Put up hanging baskets and placed out pots filled with summer bedding and tender perennials.

Removed any remaining old daffodil stems now that they've turned brown.

Cutiing back Penstemon that were over wintered in the polytunnel.

Pruned RHODODENDRONS, PHILADELPHUS, WEIGELA, KOLKWITZIA,SYRINGA, and all other spring flowering shrubs in need of a tidy.

Shredding on wet days.

Feeding all pots and hanging baskets with a liquid seaweed extract feed.

Cut back trailing plants such as Aubrieta and Arabis when they had finished flowering.

Watering any newly planted areas during dry spells.

Any tall perennials not staked earlier in the year are staked as they are seen.

Regular watering, ventilating when warm and damping down floors in morning.

Planted out SWEETCORN in blocks.

Planted TOMATOES and PEAS.

Planted out TOMATOES.

Final harvest of ASPARAGUS.

Harvested multisown BEETROOT.

Potted on AUBERGINE; CHILLI PEPPERS; SWEET PEPPERS; CUCUMBERS; TOMATOES and MELONS into their final pots.

Potted on microplants of POTATO 'Salad Blue' into 8cm (3") pots.

Week 3

General
Overgrown clumps of spring flowering perennials such as PULMONARIA are being divided.

Pinching out growing tips of plums, cherries and peaches.

Clipping buxus hedging.

Thinning out blanket weed and any other invasive plant growth in ponds.

Deadheading greenhouse and conservatory plants, as needed.

Allotment
Cleared brassica area.

Parterre
Planted LETTUCE and BROAD BEANS.

Cleaning paths.

Weeding beds.

Elizabethan Vegetable Garden
Pulled up CABBAGES that had bolted.

Planted LETTUCE.

Staked SWEET PEAS.

Weeded beds.

Reclaimed Garden
Planted TOMATOES.

Weeding beds.

Pruned grape vines two leaves beyond the last truss of grapes.

Tying in climbers.

Dead-heading various perennials -  roses, lupins, iris sibirica and persicaria bistorta 'Superba'.

Lawn edging, mowing and strimming. 

Checking greenhouses and conservatory for pests regularly and spraying with soft soap.

Allotment
Planted out COURGETTES and SQUASH.

Elizabethan Vegetable Garden
Tied in and sideshooted SWEET PEAS.

Removed BROAD BEANS now they have finished cropping.

Planted CARROTS and LEEKS.

Greenhouse
Potted on TOMATO 'Tumbler' into 3 litre pots.

Regularly watering and damping down.
