Garden Elizabethan Vegetable Garden Planted COURGETTE 'Orelia' at the end of the POTATO bed. Planted LETTUCE 'Granada'. Directly sown RADISH 'Cherry Belle'. Parterre Planted CABBAGE 'Golden Acre Primo', 'Red Jewel' and 'Greyhound'. Thinned LETTUCE 'Little Gem'. Planted RUNNER BEANS each side of apple arch and up each of the 4 rose obelisks. Greenhouse Potted on last of the TOMATOES, MELONS and CUCUMBERS into 10 litre pots. Sown LETTUCE 'Lollo Rosso', All the Year Round' and 'Fristina' into trays. Placed MELONS and CUCUMBERS into their growing positions in the greenhouse. Potted on AUBERGINE and PEPPER into 3 litre pots. Pricked out SWEET WILLIAMS into 8cm (3") pots. General Tied in and pinched out shoots on all wall and fence trained plums and cherries. lso thinned out fruit. Cut back DAFFODIL leaves now they have turned brown. Tied in all climbers that have started to grow away from their supports. Allotment Directly sown RADISH 'Cherry Belle', 'Scarlet Globe' and 'French Breakfast'. Weeding through all areas. Edging grass pathways. Ornamental Kitchen
Garden Planted RUNNER BEAN 'Celebration' to climb up fence. Parterre General Trimming BUXUS hedging in various gardens using a pair of sheep shears. Spraying infestations of aphids with soft soap solution every third day until all signs of the pest have gone. Most susceptible have been the ROSES, LUPINS and conservatory/greenhouse plants. Planted out tender perennials - DAHLIAS, CANNAS, OSTEOSPERMUMS, PELARGONIUMS, ARGYRANTHEMUMS and FUCHSIAS. Parterre Planted MARIGOLDS around some beds as companion plants. Greenhouse Watering all plants with water taken from the water barrel that has a netted bag of COMFREY hanging in it (high in nitrogen). General Turned compost heaps dotted around gardens. Dug out patio and pathway areas in The Garden for the Less Mobile in readiness for the hardcore base. Pruning WISTERIA, DEUTZIA, PHILADELPHUS, WEIGELA and rambling and climbing ROSES. Removed suckers from ROSES, PRUNUS and SORBUS. Mowing, strimming and lawn edging. Allotment Tied in any RAPBERRY canes that had come loose. Digging over ground vacated by 1st early POTATOES grown under polythene now they have all been lifted. Planted LEEK 'Bulgarian Giant' at the bottom of a trench which will be filled in as the LEEKS develop. Hoeing and weeding all areas. Dead heading MARIGOLDS as necessary. Picking over all fruit on a regular basis - REASPBERRIES, STRAWBERRIES, BLACKCURRANTS, REDCURRANTS, LOGANBERRIES and GOOSEBERRIES. Elizabethan

Garden Planted TOMATO 'Ailsa Craig'. Greenhouse Sown LETTUCE 'Valdor', 'Granada' and 'Blush' and LEEK 'Autumn Mammoth 2 - Snowstar', 'Musselburgh', 'Bulgarian Giant', 'Vrizo', 'King Richard', 'Autumn Giant 3 - Albana', Lyon-Prizetaker' and 'Carlton' into trays. Potted PEPPER ands AUBERGINE into final 5 litre pots and placed them in their growing position. Side shooting TOMATOES. Regularly checking for new male and female flowers on MELONS and fertilising female flowers when necessary. Potted CAPE GOOSEBERRY into 8cm (3") pots. Damping down floors on hotter days.
