Greenhouse Placed out PEPPERS and AUBERGINES into their final growing positions. Potted TOMATO 'Maltese Plum' and CAPE GOOSEBERRY into their final 10 litre pots. Week
2 Allotment Dug a trench for the LEEK 'Mammoth' and then planted at the bottom. Harvested all new POTATOES grown under polythene as ground was required for next crop. Tied in and side shooted SWEET PEAS. Watering when required. Cut
out unwanted RASPBERRY canes. Gentleman's
Cottage Garden Ornamental
Kitchen Garden Greenhouse Potted micropropagated plants of POTATO 'Salad Blue'. Pricked out all winter CAULIFLOWERS, CURLY Kale and BROCCOLI into modules. Made a framework out of canes to tie the MELONS to as they grow. Week
3 Pruned RHODODENDRONS, PHILADELPHUS, WEIGELA, KOLKWITZIA, STONE FRUITS, SYRINGA, and all other spring flowering shrubs in need of a tidy up. Planted out DAHLIA, CHRYSANTHEMUM, FUCHSIA, ARGYRANTHEMUM, CANNA and PELARGONIUMS. Allotment General hoeing, weeding and watering. Planted CELERY 'Loretta'. Put chicken wire over FRENCH BEANS due to a rabbit problem. Planted
out BROCCOLI 'Rudolph'. Sowed RUNNER BEAN 'Margoles' and 'Guliver' into deep modules. Tied in all TOMATOEs and side shooted. Potted up autumn and winter cabbages as a stop gap as there is nowhere to plant out as of yet. Week

LAVANDULA 'Hidcote in Gentleman's Cottage Garden as border edging
in place of the BUXUS sempervirens that had to be removed due to
box blight. Cutting back perennial that have finished flowering, unless seed is required. Dead-heading. Allotment Planted out CABBAGE 'Minicole' and 'Guardian' and SWISS CHARD 'Bright Lights'. Thinned out SCORZONERA and SALSIFY. Started to fill trench planted with LEEK 'Mammoth' to blanch the stems. Sown into coldframe CARROT 'Ideal', SPRING ONION 'Guardsman', Onion 'Paris' (silverskin), LETTUCE 'Allsorts' and CHINESE CABBAGE 'One Kilo S.B.'. Parterre Elizabethan
