All permanent garden containers filled with summer bedding. Remainder of bedding planted in drifts into the borders where space allows. Allotment PUMPKIN 'Atlantic Giant' planted into hotbox. RADISH 'Pink Beauty' sown onto mild hotbed. SWEET POTATO 'Beaureford' planted out under black plastic and clear polythene cloche placed over. Main crop POTATO 'Desiree', 'King Edward', 'Druid', 'Valor' and 'Pink Fir Apple' and second ealry 'Kondor' and 'Maris Peer' planted out. TURNIP 'Purple Top Milan'; SWEDE 'Best of All' and 'Ruby'; CARROT 'Ingot', 'Yellowstone' and 'Flyaway' directly sown into the ground. SPINACH 'Perpetual' planted out from 7cm (3") pots. PARSNIP 'Tender and True' that had been raised in cardboard tubes were planted out and clear plastic drinks bottles placed over the top. Elizabethan

2 COMFREY cut and placed in the bottom of the empty compost bin. Small ONION and show ONION beds hand weeded. SWEETPEAS tied in and tendrils removed. All varieties now flowering. PUMPKIN 'Atlantic Giant' planted out. MARROW/COURGETTE bed prepared and Rooster pelleted chicken manure spread. Orchard Glass

House General Pruned fan trained PEACHES,. NECTARINES and acid CHERRIES by cutting last year's shoots to 6 leaves. Planting out varieties of plants not already present in gardens to fill some gaps. Watered via sprinklers at night. Tidying BEECH hedges with hedge cutters. Dead-heading ROSES. Laying path in the Japanese garden. Started pruning late spring and early summer flowering shrubs such as CEANOTHUS, EXOCHORDA, CHOISYA, RUBUS, CYTISUS, CHAENOMELES, RIBES SANGUINEUM, and SPIREA ARGUTA. Allotment SWEETPEAS have now reached the tops of the 2.5m (8') canes so as they continue to grow they will be laid down and taken up the next cane. DWARF FRENCH BEAN 'Souba', 'Slenderette' and 'Purpait'; KENYA BEAN 'Twiggy', 'Jacobs Cattle Bean'; KIDNEY BEAN 'Minnie' and HYACINTH BEAN 'Lablab' planted out. Started harvesting STRAWBERRIES.
