Week 1

General
All planted containers, wall pots and hanging baskets put out around the garden.

All permanent garden containers filled with summer bedding.

Remainder of bedding planted in drifts into the borders where space allows.

Allotment
TOMATO plants put into small tunnel.

PUMPKIN 'Atlantic Giant' planted into hotbox.

RADISH 'Pink Beauty' sown onto mild hotbed.

SWEET POTATO 'Beaureford' planted out under black plastic and clear polythene cloche placed over.

Main crop POTATO 'Desiree', 'King Edward', 'Druid', 'Valor' and 'Pink Fir Apple' and second ealry 'Kondor' and 'Maris Peer' planted out.

TURNIP 'Purple Top Milan'; SWEDE 'Best of All' and 'Ruby'; CARROT 'Ingot', 'Yellowstone' and 'Flyaway' directly sown into the ground.

SPINACH 'Perpetual' planted out from 7cm (3") pots.

PARSNIP 'Tender and True' that had been raised in cardboard tubes were planted out and clear plastic drinks bottles placed over the top.

Elizabethan Vegetable Garden
Herb circle planted with PARSLEY 'Moss Curled' and 'Plain Leaved'; CHERVIL and AMERICAN LAND CRESS.

Parterre
Planted Main crop POTATO 'Valor'.

Nursery
Started tidying plants for our display garden in the floral marquee at the Gardeners' World Live exhibition and selecting and putting to one side saleable plants for the exhibition.

Glass House
STRAWBERRY 'Sarian' pricked out into 7cm (3") pots.

Week 2

Allotment
Compost bins turned.

COMFREY cut and placed in the bottom of the empty compost bin.

Small ONION and show ONION beds hand weeded.

SWEETPEAS tied in and tendrils removed. All varieties now flowering.

PUMPKIN 'Atlantic Giant' planted out.

MARROW/COURGETTE bed prepared and Rooster pelleted chicken manure spread.

Orchard
Codling Moth pheremone traps hung in trees.

Glass House
LETTUCE 'Weebs Wonderful', 'Burgundy Boston', 'Blush', 'Saladin', 'Red Salad Bowl', 'Salad Bowl', 'Ice King', 'Bakito', 'Lollo Rossa', 'Sangria' and 'Red Iceberg Sioux'; KOHL RABI 'Purple Vienna', 'Lanro' and 'Roblan'; STRAWBERRY 'Sweet Sensation'; BEE BORAGE and WOAD pricked out.

Potted LETTUCE 'Rusty'. 'Embrace', 'Triumph', 'Iglo' and 'Black Seeded Samara' into 7cm (3") pots.

Week 3

General
Pruned sweet cherries and plums by cutting back new shoots to six leaves and cutting out any old and unwanted shoots. New growth tied in to fill gaps on fan trained fruit.

Planted out cut flowers in the Mediterranean garden as this will not be developed until the autumn.

Allotment
MARROW 'Long Bush Green', 'Tiger Cross' and 'Tivoli'; COURGETTE 'Defender', 'Gold Rush' and 'Black Beauty'; SQUASH 'Crown Prince' and 'Custard White'; SWEETCORN 'Sundance', 'Mini Pop', 'Swift', 'Indian Summer' and 'Applause' and RUNNER BEAN 'Enorma', 'Relay' and 'Painted Lady' planted out.

Leaves bent over heads of CAULIFLOWERS now beginning to form.

Elizabethan Vegetable Garden
All remaining 1st early POTATO 'Rocket' harvested and bed prepared for MARROWS.

SWEET WILLIAMS, MARIGOLDS and CALENDULA planted out around compost bin.

MARROW 'Sunburst' and COURGETTE 'Supremo' planted out.

Glass House
POTATO slips of 'Highland Burgundy Red' and 'Salad Blue' planted into containers and placed in the shaded tunnel.

Week 4

General
Aerating compacted lawn areas and brushing in sharp sand.

Pruned fan trained PEACHES,. NECTARINES and acid CHERRIES by cutting last year's shoots to 6 leaves.

Planting out varieties of plants not already present in gardens to fill some gaps.

Watered via sprinklers at night.

Tidying BEECH hedges with hedge cutters.

Dead-heading ROSES.

Laying path in the Japanese garden.

Started pruning late spring and early summer flowering shrubs such as CEANOTHUS, EXOCHORDA, CHOISYA, RUBUS, CYTISUS, CHAENOMELES, RIBES SANGUINEUM, and SPIREA ARGUTA.

Allotment
CELERIAC 'Monarch'; CHARD 'Bright Lights' and 'Bright Yellow'; PARSLEY 'Moss Curled'; CLIMBING FRENCH BEAN 'Cherokee Trail of Tears', 'Blue Coco' and 'Blue and White' planted out from 7cm (3") pots.

SWEETPEAS have now reached the tops of the 2.5m (8') canes so as they continue to grow they will be laid down and taken up the next cane.

DWARF FRENCH BEAN 'Souba', 'Slenderette' and 'Purpait'; KENYA BEAN 'Twiggy', 'Jacobs Cattle Bean'; KIDNEY BEAN 'Minnie' and HYACINTH BEAN 'Lablab' planted out.

Started harvesting STRAWBERRIES.

Early sowing of BRUSSELS SPROUT 'Peer Gynt' removed as they began to run to seed due to abnormal weather conditions.

Earthed up main crop POTATOES.

Ornamental Kitchen Garden
RUNNER BEAN 'Painted Lady' planted against the pergola.

Elizabethan Vegetable Garden
KOHL RABI 'Purple Vienna' and RADISH 'Rats Tail' planted out and covered with clear plastic drinks bottles.

Glass House
MELONS and CUCUMBERS staked.

Harvested first CUCUMBERS and TOMATOES.
