Week 1

General
Pruning trees by removing any diseased, damaged, crossing or oversized branches.

Shredding garden waste.

Hedge laying part of our quickthorn boundary hedge.

Allotment
Filled hotbox with fresh manure and made mild hotbed. Capped both with 10cm (4") of compost. Placed cloche over hotbox and cold frame on mild hotbed and left them both to heat up.

Made staging for polytunnel.

Turned compost heaps.

Greenhouse
Planted POTATO 'Swift' in very large pot.

Sown ONION 'Lancastrian' and 'Mammoth Improved' into modules.

Week 2

General
Weeding, cutting back, pruning, dividing and mulching still continuing in various places around the gardens.

The glass has been removed from the greenhouse in one of the courtyard gardens in readiness for rubbing down and painting.

Food and water has been put out for the birds in various places around the gardens.

Allotment
Planted out SHALLOT 'Hative de Niort'.

Put up SWEET PEA support post and wires.

Removed BRUSSELS SPROUT plants now they have all been harvested and shredded them before putting them onto the compost heap.

Greenhouse
Planted GARLIC 'Solent Wight' into 8cm (3.5") pots.

Sown SWEET PEAS 'Evensong', 'Edward', 'Jimmy Young', 'Oxford Blue', 'Southbourne', 'Mollie Rilestone', 'Lilac Ripple', 'Dreamy Sunset' and 'Fragrant Skies' into tubes made from newspaper.

Sown CAULIFLOWER 'Mayflower' and CABBAGE 'Golden Acre' into a seed tray.
Sown ONION 'Brunswick', 'Bedfordshire Champion' and 'Red Pearl' and LETTUCE 'Fristina' and 'Lollo Rosso'  into modules.

Sown PEA 'Douce Provence' into 8cm (3.5") pots with 2 seeds per pot.

Week 3

General
Checked all tree stakes and adjusted as necessary.

Pruned WISTERIA.

Cut lengths of HAZEL from our wood to be used as RUNNER BEAN and PEA supports.

Allotment
Pruned autumn fruiting RASPBERRIES 'Allgold' and 'Autumn Bliss', GOOSEBERRIES, REDCURRANTS and WHITECURRANTS.

Greenhouse
Sown AUBERGINE 'Black Beauty' and TOMATO 'Moneymaker' into a seed tray.

Planted POTATO 'Rocket' into a large pot.

Potted up seedlings, sown in modules, of LETTUCE 'Fristina' and 'All Year Round' into 8cm (3.5") pots.

Sown BROAD BEAN 'Crimson Flowered' (from our own saved seed stock) and 'Express' into deep modules.

Pinched tops from SWEET PEAS.

Sown RUDBECIA 'Indiansommer' into trays.

Week 4

General
Repotting rooted perennial cuttings taken late summer last year.

Topping up ponds and water features when required.

Allotment
Prepared ground for BROAD BEANS.

Mulched RASPBERRY bed with composted wood chip.

Erected support posts for Autumn fruiting RASPBERRY bed.

Greenhouse
Sown CAULIFLOWER 'Rapido'; TOMATO 'Sungold', 'Green Zebra', 'Big Boy' and 'Alicante' and PEPPER 'Numex Twilight', 'Jumbo' and 'Joe's Long' into trays.

Potted TOMATO 'Ailsa Craig' into 8cm (3.5") pots.

Checking DAHLIAS for disease or signs of rot.
