Started pruning and tying-in rambling and climbing ROSES.

Dressed beds in Parterre, Artisan's Cottage Garden and Elizabethan Vegetable Garden where POTATOES had been.

Allotment
Sprayed all BRASSICAS with Bacillus thuringiensis at first sighting of Cabbage White Butterfly caterpillar damage.

Cut down COMFREY and put leaves into compost bin.

Removed tops from some POTATO varieties at first signs of Potato Blight.

Elizabethan Vegetable Garden
Removed tops from BROAD BEAN 'Crimson Flowered.

Lifted ONION 'Red Baron'.

Glass House
Fed and side-shooted TOMATOES.

Sown CAULIFLOWER 'Evita' and 'Patriot'; PARSLEY 'Plain Leaved' and 'Moss Curled'; KOHL RABI 'Purple Vienna' and LETTUCE 'Burgundy Boston', 'Rusty', 'Fristine' and 'Granada'.

Week 2

General
Mowing, lawn edging and strimming.

Dead-headed all ROSES.

Allotment
Manured plot ready for autumn ONIONS.

General tidy around all vegetable areas.

Week 3

General
Setting posts for Tea House in the Japanese Garden and preparing small area to try out some stone to cover the meditation side of the garden.

Set out fencing around the new Garden for the Less Mobile in readiness for setting in the posts.

Allotment
Directly sown SPRING CABBAGE 'April', 'Durham Elf' and 'Pixie'; FRENCH BEAN 'Sultana'; Baby SPINACH 'Tetona'; SPINACH 'Perpetual' and LEAF BEAT 'Bright Lights'.

Dug up POTATOES 'Nicola' (excellent, clean crop), 'Edzell Blue (poor crop due to blight), Cara (lot of slug damage), Desiree (very clean) and Maxine (lot of slug damage).

Single dug area Potatoes had been and prepared bed for various types of GREEN MANURE - Phacelia tanacetifolia, Tares, Grazing Rye and Fenugreek.

Nusery
Preparing plants for the RHS Wisley Flower Show next week.  We are exhibiting a 3m x 2.5m display.

Pareterre
Removed SWEET PEA plants and manured bed.

Week 4

General
Pruning and tying in rambling ROSES.

Cutting CONIFER hedges.

Thinning overcrowded pond plants.

Dead Heading.

Due to the dryness we have mowed less frequently and without the collecting box on.

Allotment
Dug up POTATOES 'Desiree' and 'King Edward' - both were smaller than expected but clean.

Prepared ONION bed and planted setts of 'Swift' and 'Electric'.

Directly sown RADISH 'Scarlet Globe', SPRING ONION 'White Lisbon Winter Hardy' and a trial variety of bunching ONION '9115'.

Put support onto BRUSSELS SPROUT plants.

Removed the double row of SWEET PEAS now that the flowers have all but finished and dug the area.
