Started pruning and tying-in rambling and climbing ROSES. Dressed beds in Parterre, Artisan's Cottage Garden and Elizabethan Vegetable Garden where POTATOES had been. Allotment Cut down COMFREY and put leaves into compost bin. Removed tops from some POTATO varieties at first signs of Potato Blight. Elizabethan

House Sown CAULIFLOWER 'Evita' and 'Patriot'; PARSLEY 'Plain Leaved' and 'Moss Curled'; KOHL RABI 'Purple Vienna' and LETTUCE 'Burgundy Boston', 'Rusty', 'Fristine' and 'Granada'. Week
2 Dead-headed all ROSES. Allotment
General Set out fencing around the new Garden for the Less Mobile in readiness for setting in the posts. Allotment Dug up POTATOES 'Nicola' (excellent, clean crop), 'Edzell Blue (poor crop due to blight), Cara (lot of slug damage), Desiree (very clean) and Maxine (lot of slug damage). Single dug area Potatoes had been and prepared bed for various types of GREEN MANURE - Phacelia tanacetifolia, Tares, Grazing Rye and Fenugreek. Nusery Pareterre General Cutting CONIFER hedges. Thinning overcrowded pond plants. Dead Heading. Due to the dryness we have mowed less frequently and without the collecting box on. Allotment Prepared ONION bed and planted setts of 'Swift' and 'Electric'. Directly sown RADISH 'Scarlet Globe', SPRING ONION 'White Lisbon Winter Hardy' and a trial variety of bunching ONION '9115'.
