This is your chance to recreate part of the Lands' End 'Across the Pond' Gold Medal winning urban garden at the 2011 RHS Chelsea Flower Show. We have selected six of the best varieties from the display that can be easily grown in shade or semi-shade in most gardens - Digitalis lanata, Alchemilla mollis, Hosta Hadspen Blue, Geranium sanguineum Album, Aruncus dioicus and Luzula nivea.

Summer flowering. This introduced wild flower has large, crinkled basal leaves that form a handsome clump and is topped by large yellow, daisy-like flowers. Sunny, but moisture retentive position. 180cm (6')
May-June flowering. The dense clusters of pure white flowers are produced over a good clump, of divided green, foliage. Will grow in sun or semi-shade in a moisture retentive soil. 38 x 38cm (15" x 15")
Evergreen. Early summer flowering. A slowly spreading, perennial rush with narrow green leaves and dense clusters of white flowers on stiff stems. Best in partial-shade and moist. 60 x 60cm (24" x 24")
Summer flowering. Cut green foliage topped by very maases of bright white flower plumes, held on sturdy stems. Will grow in shade or semi-shade in a moisture retentive soil. 60 x 90cm (24" x 36")
Autumn flowering. The masses of small, white daisy flowers are freely produced on stiff stems. One of the last flowers of autumn. Will grow in sun or semi-shade in a moisture retentive soil. 120 x 45-60cm (4' x 18"-24")
September-October flowering. A tall variety giving invaluable late season colour with the golden-yellow flowers produced in panicles on stiff stems. Best in a sunny position in most garden soils. 150cm (60")
Summer flowering. A spreading plant producing many brightly variegated leaves topped by whitish flowers. Sun or semi-shade in any soil. 2m (6') x indefinite spread
Late summer flowering. The green leaves have a broad white margin and are topped by panicles of whitish-yellow spikelets late in the summer. Best in a sunny and sheltered position. 2.5-3m x 60cm (8'-10' x 2')
June-September flowering. A statuesque plant with the large, felted grey leaves forming into rosettes from which the bright golden-yellow flower spikes are produced on stiff stems. Sunny position. 1.8-2.4m x 60cm (6'-8' x 2')
Semi-evergreen. Late summer flowering. A bushy plant with small oval green leaves and masses of small, blue flowers produced over a long period. Has culinary uses. Best in a sunny and well drained position. 60 x 60cm (24" x 24")
Late spring-early summer flowering. A beardless Iris with the blue- purple flowers borne on branched stems over sword-like leaves. Best in a sunny and moisture retentive position. 60-120 x 90-120cm (24"-48" x 36"-48")
Deciduous. Bright orange-red young shoots during winter and early spring. Best when hard pruned in spring. Sunny and moisture retentive position. 25 x 10m (75' x 30') if not pruned.
Deciduous. Grown for its lovely golden-yellow winter stems. Hard prune in spring. Sunny and moisture retentive position. 15 x 9m (45' x 27') if not pruned.
